Thank you for your interest in the Music Director position for the Lake George Community Band. The band, now in its 7th year, has become one of the premier wind ensembles in the region. It has approximately 70 members. It rehearses weekly throughout the year in the Lake George High School and performs approximately 12 times annually, providing the community with musical programs during the summer and holiday seasons. Its summer performance venue is Shepard Park in Lake George.
Qualifications of Music Director:
A) Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Music.
B) Previous conducting experience with concert bands.
C) Knowledge of concert band literature.
Responsibilities of Music Director:
A) Prepare and conduct weekly scheduled rehearsals and approximately 12 performances a year.
B) Demonstrate good leadership and interpersonal skills including participation in band social events.
C) Determine musician’s placement within sections and if necessary oversee auditions of prospective members.
D) Adhere to responsibilities contained in the band’s by-laws:
1) Serve as a nonvoting member of the Board of Directors.
2) Appoint Assistant Director and other qualified conductors.
3) Select music in cooperation with the Music Committee.
4) Select guest performers in cooperation with Music Committee.
A stipend, the amount to be determined, will be considered.
